I received a text from Nick saying we got into Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham Alabama. YES! With plans made, an airbnb rented, I popped into the car and drove. The festival was a blast!
We settled into our short film block at 10:45 am on saturday and waited for about 10 short films to play before ours. I had seen a rough cut of our film with people who knew the script thoroughly, this was the first time with people who had no idea what would happen. The audience laughed at areas I wasn’t expecting and at the moment when the surprise happens the audience had mixed reactions, some laughed, some gasped, some shouted out “No.” I was floored to have such a great audience response! They were invested in the short, in the characters and in the plot. Throughout the rest of the weekend people came up to me and explained how much they enjoyed the short, how they thought I was a great actor and what was going through their minds during the short. I am honored, thank you everyone who came up and shared with me!
The weekend was full of catching short films and a few feature length films. I met wonderful people some who traveled in from as far as England to as short as a few miles away. I want to mention some however I can’t mention them all so I shall leave names out. Just know if any of you reading this is someone I spent time with at the festival, I had a wonderful time with you and enjoyed our conversations.
There is one show I have to mention it is called “To Sleep to Dream.” It was incredible! The audience walks into the space and are sat down then blind folded. The show is completely sounds, some narration to set up the story or slightly describe the space however the largest part of the show was sounds, conversation and whatever your imagination created. I left in awe of what i had just heard.
My last moments of the festival were spend with my director Nicholas Corrao, drinking a beer and planning out what we were going to do to get another film in next year. Sidewalk Film Festival 2015 here I come!
